SPOKEN WORD SCHOOL-WIDE ASSEMBLIES, POETRY SLAMS

AND ORATORY RELATED STUDY TRIPS FOR LWOL POETS

Once a student completes the 8-session Let’s Write Out Program they become eligible to serve their community and master the art of public speaking with a fun, like-minded and supportive group during our oratory assemblies, poetry slams and oratory-related study trips.

Our student poetry slams focus on public speaking.  We work with several sponsors and non-profit organizations by hosting district-wide poetry slams. Our poetry slams have received support from San Bernardino, CA Mayor Patrick Morris, local councilman and the community.  It bridges the gap between students, parents, teachers and the community. These poetry slams feature representatives of Homestreet Publishing and community poets, but more importantly, they feature students.  Cash prizes and literary scholarships are awarded to first, second and third place winners.

The goal of the Let’s Write Out Loud Oratory-Related Study Trips is to give young writers of the future a chance to serve their community by motivating people of all ages, races and religions with their words.

We travel together as a cohesive group of orators, short story tellers and poets.  Your young writers arrive at a destination of self-development, as they encourage, uplift and inspire the communities they serve.

They become extremely involved in their community for a range of reasons and their service to humanity can be listed on their academic resumes.

Students walk away with a copy of their performance to evaluate their public speaking skills and their body language.

The Let’s Write Out Loud Students:

· Get involved with social and political projects in their community

· Read and share poetry to the elderly in nursing homes

· Read and share poetry to hospitalized children and adults

· Read and share poetry at local libraries

· Participate in activities that benefit the community

We expect students to be on their best behavior during the workshops, poetry sessions, slams and study trips.  We’re only together for a short time so we ask that they’re respectful and follow all of the rules set by their parent organization i.e. school, community center, etc.

Failure to be orderly and respectful may cause them to be removed from the poetry program and be placed on a waiting list to re-enter.

We look forward to working with you!
